Dart Supplies

There are 5 major pieces of equipment that you will need to play the wonderful game of darts.

They are Flights, Shafts, Barrels, Tips, and a Dartboard. If you don't have one of these you are going to have a hard time throwing.

First we have the Flights. These are on the back of the dart. It is what helps stabilize it during flight to the board. You can find several different styles of these. You can really make a statement with them since there is such a wide selection of graphics on them. You can also get them in several different materials ranging from soft feather style to hard plastic to ribtex.

Next you have the shaft, which will really decide what length your dart will be. These can range from 3/4" to 2 1/2" long. These come in many different colors and can be made of plastic to solid aluminum.

Then we have the Barrel. The Barrel is what you are going to hold to throw the dart. You can find these in some interesting grips and styles. These are also going to be the bulk weight of the dart so if you want a light dart then get a lightweight barrel and vise versa.

Next you have the Tips. There are a few different types of tips. If you are playing steel tip well you will want to have steel tips. Where if you play Soft tip you can find a little more variety. You can find them skinny or a little fatter. It will be up to you.

The main things you will need out of these is the barrel and the tips. The flights and the shafts are just accessories that you can add and change whenever you want. But a GOOD dart player will always use the same Barrel and tips. One piece of advice that I would like to give to All of the beginners out there. When you are building your darts you might want to pick up 3 small O-rings. You will place these between the shaft and the barrel. This little tip will help when you are throwing and having to tighten the joint between the two. Trust me you WILL have to tighten them if you throw on a constant basis.

Then lastly you will need a good dartboard. There are several different kinds of dartboards. You can find steel tip cork dartboard all the way to the Electronic Bristletec. Which is either steel tip or soft tip dart compatible. That is the best way to go if you are just beginning. You may have friends that throw steel and some that throw Soft. It will be the best of both worlds everyone can play together.
